Grape Jam

Jam is usually made by boiling chopped or mashed fruit with water and sugar. Once it starts boiling, pectin will get activated in the fruit and this helps to set the jam after cooling. In some cases, extra pectin will be added to have proper setting. Here most of the jam available in the supermarket has added color and preservatives. Also it contains some fruit essence instead of actual fruit.

Wanna eat some fresh homemade grape jam which has only real fruits and no preservatives? 😉

An easy way of making Grape Jam is from cooked grape juice

Ingredients:

  • Grape Juice : 1 litre (with sugar – cooked grape juice)
  • Sugar : 1.5 cups (extra required for jam and may vary as per the quality of fruit)

Preparation:

Step 1:
Pour juice into a pan and add sugar. Mix well.

Step 2:
Keep the pan on heat/flame and keep on stirring till juice reduced and becomes thick. Pour a small sample drop on a plate and check whether it is run or set. If it is getting set, your jam is ready to take out from the flame.

Step 3:
Pour the mix into a glass jar (or vessel) and after 3-4 minutes keep it into the refridgerator.

Step 4:
After 15-20 minutes, take out the jam from the refridegerator and start using. This can be kept outside for more than 2 weeks.

Enjoy fresh jam with fresh homemade bread !!

I love cooking and trying out various recipes, and also to come up with ways to achieve good results in reasonable time and effort ? All of the recipes I post here were tried out by me at least 2-3 times (if not a few dozen times) before I was happy with a simple method which gives me good results. Hope you enjoy making these dishes. Would be thrilled if you let me know in the comments how your experiment went. If you have recipe requests for any Malabar dishes, please contact me and I’ll make every effort to get the recipe, try it out and post it here.
